Student recruitment and participation this year is going to one of our biggest goals, we would appreciate if you could spread the word among your fellow TC majors and try to get involved with us this year!
ASCOT stands for Associated Students for Career Orientation in Telecommunications.
The goal of this organization is to provide as many networking opportunities as possible with big companies specifically looking for TC and TC-related majors. We also try to provide opportunities to gain leadership skills and experience to all of our members.
ASCOT is also a great way to meet your fellow TC majors, and make new friends with those within your major. Some of our past events have included resume workshops led by TC or HR professionals, technical workshops led by executive board members and faculty or professionals, company tours, company presentations, broom ball, ice cream socials and also a “casual-setting” career fair called Convergence. We plan on having many similar events along with a few new ones throughout the year. We have a lot of great ideas for events planned for this year, but we need your input!
Most of these events are “members-only.” We like to give our members the privilege of having the most out of our networking opportunities. Members are invited to all events, and whenever we have company presentations, their resumes are put on a CD to give to these potential employers. We also keep our members’ resumes on our web site and many of our close-contact employers visit the site when looking to fill a position. On top of all of this, employers regularly send job and internship postings to our executive board, and we post them on our web site.
Dues are $15 for the entire year. You can pay through PayPal online (via ascot.msu.edu). I can’t tell you enough how much of a benefit it is to be a part of this organization!
